Chocolate Bannock

  • 225g Butter
  • 115g Caster Sugar
  • 400g Plain Flour
  • 50g Walnuts
  • 50g Plain Chocolate
  • Flaked Almonds

Alternative Ingredient

  • Replace chocolate with 100g Nutella

  • Preparation Time: 15 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 35 minutes
  • Oven Temperature: 170 degrees
  • Uses greased baking tray
  • Makes 12 large portions

Place the sugar and butter into a mixing bowl. Cream together. Add the flour and rub together to form crumbs. Chop the plain chocolate into small chunks, and break the walnuts into small pieces. Add them to the mixture and kneed the crumbs together to form a dough. It will be quite dry, so will from cracks when pressured. Grease a baking tray and place the dough on it. Push flat with your fingers until just over a centimetre thick. Smooth the edges to remove cracks. Score the mixture to define the portions required. Then add flaked almonds to the top, avoiding the scored lines. Place in the oven for 35 minutes. When you get it out, cut along the scored lines to make the portions before it cools. Caster sugar sprinkled over works nicely.
